SCOUTING PROGRAMS
The Montgomery County Historical Society offers several programs for scouts to earn their badges while taking part in exciting historical activities on the grounds of the Beall-Dawson Historical Park. To make an appointment for your scout troop call Emily Correll at 301-340-2825.
Brownies Try It!
Tour the historic Beall-Dawson House and a local nineteenth century cemetery. Students will play historic games and learn exciting stories from the county's historic past.
Cub Scouts - Bears
What Makes America Special
Scouts will tour the historic Beall-Dawson House, the Stonestreet Museum of 19th Century Medicine.
Family Achievement
Scouts will immerse themselves in child-designed genealogy charts and take part in the fascinating journey of family and local history.
Girl Scouts Juniors
Local Lore Badge
Scouts will tour the Beall-Dawson House and take a walking tour of the historic district including a nineteenth century graveyard. They will have the opportunity to photograph and sketch historic sites and use vintage maps and newspaper articles. This program fulfills five of the six requirements for the Local Lore badge.
Girl Scouts - Cadets
Heritage Hunt Interest Project
At the Jane Sween Library, scouts can work towards the badge requirements of the Heritage Hunt Interest Project. The library collection contains a host of genealogy materials, historic photos, books and maps for those interested in learning about the county's rich history.
