On-going Programs

First Friday of the month, 10:30-12:30   Genealogy Help at the Jane C. Sween Research Library: First Friday sessions are open to anyone needing help. Some months have a specific topic or theme and others are more nuts and bolts. MCHS's Librarian Patricia Andersen and trained volunteers will help answer your genealogical questions. It is recommended you call first to determine the month's topic. Included with $5 Library research fee (MCHS members free).  For more information, call 301-340-2974.


Upcoming Meetings

Genealogy Club meetings, unless otherwise noted, are held at the Rockville Senior Center, 1150 Carnation Dr., Rockville, MD. Call 240-314-5019 for directions. There is ample free parking. Meetings are always held on Wednesdays at 7:30, with refreshments following.

Wednesday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Not Quite a Brick Wall.  Previously submitted research questions will be addressed by a panel that hopefully will have helpful strategies to break through what is keeping you from your research goals.

Saturday, June 16 at 4:00 p.m.at the Beall-Dawson House, Rockville
Our annual picnic. Bring a pot-luck dish to share, and a lawn chair. If the weather is good, we’ll be outside on the grounds. We’ll also have a show and tell of how we share our genealogy findings with our family - charts, web pages, etc.

(The Gene Club meetings take a summer hiatus; no meetings in July and August.)

Google for Genealogists, by Dr. Margaret McMahon. We all use Google to search the Internet, but come and learn many advanced tricks of the trade to get the most out of those searches.

Wednesday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Finding Your German Ancestor's Place of Origin, by John Humphrey. Do you need to jump across the pond to Germany? An interesting array of records exists that can lead you to your ancestral "heimat" (home town) in Germany. Learn what those records are and how to use them.

Wednesday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m
Postwar Records at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, by Megan Lewis. Learn about records from the International Tracing Service containing information about WWII displaced persons and their families and hear a brief overview of resources available at the Museum.
