The Montgomery County Historical Society has been providing patron access to the Montgomery County Archives since July 1, 2003. For information on the content of record collections and archival materials please go to the archives website. The archives is the official depository for the programmatic records of Montgomery County, documenting both policy and physical development of the county. Records include, but are not limited to, the official correspondence of elected county officials, records of county departments, and records documenting the development of neighborhoods and transportation in the county. Also of special interest are the aerial photographs and maps of the county from the 1940's to now.

Aerial Photograph Research:

Digital copies of 1951, 1970 & 1979 aerial photographs, as well as orthographic photographs from 1993-1996, 1998, 2000 & 2002 are available online at:

These images can be viewed and printed from home or any Internet location. The county archives has 3 collections of aerial photographs that are not online: 1937-1944, 1957, and 1963.

Archives Appointments:

Access to the Montgomery County Archives is made by appointment only by contacting the Jane Sween Library of the Montgomery County Historical Society at 301-340-2974.
