The Civil War Comes to Rockville

The Civil War Comes to Rockville, June 29, 2013

On the way to Gettysburg in 1863, Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart’s cavalry rode into town – to cheers from Southern supporters, while Union sympathizers went into hiding.  Join us in downtown Rockville for a full day of programs commemorating the events of June 28, 1863!

The Montgomery County Historical Society, Heritage Montgomery, Peerless Rockville, the City of Rockville, the Conference and Visitors Bureau of Montgomery County, and the Washington Revels will be joining together to host this free event and provide a full slate of programs appealing to those interested in Civil War history, as well as families looking for a fun way to spend the day. Activities will take place at multiple venues in Rockville - Beall-Dawson Park, the Red Brick Courthouse, Christ Episcopal Church and Rockville Town Square.  Attendees will meet re-enactors, participate in games and crafts of the period, and enjoy musical performances, lectures, and a community dance at the end of the day.
