Walking Tour of Brookmont
Begun as a housing development in 1925, this historic neighborhood located just north of the District line along MacArthur Blvd., retains many 19th century homes that pre-date the development as well as the modest homes built in the early 20th century. Barbara Torrey and Clara Myrick Green, co-authors of Brookmont, will lead the tour of this hidden gem. $6/$3 for MCHS members. Reservations required.

The Beall-Dawson House is always beautifully decorated. This year's theme is music to go with the current exhibit. Tours are followed by hot spiced cider and homemade cookies. Included with museum admission.

Workshop: Holiday in a Box
Make your own miniature holiday scene in this hands-on workshop. Make books and cards using reproductions from MCHS' own collections, decorate your tree making ornaments measuring not more than 1" in size, or make a Hanukah dreidel and gelt, and create your own basic household furnishings. $20/$15 MCHS members, pre-paid reservations required.

Second Sunday of the Month, 12-4:00 Dr. Stonestreet holds office hours at the Stonestreet Museum of 19th Century Medicine
Dr. Edward E. Stonestreet (as portrayed by Clarence Hickey) holds his regular office hours the second Sunday of every month. Learn the realities of medical treatments during this period as Dr. Stonestreet shares his medical knowledge and teaches visitors to make pills and remove bullets. The Stonestreet Museum of 19th Century Medicine was Dr. Stonestreet’s Rockville office from 1852 to 1903. Included with museum admission (members free).

First Friday of the Month from 10:30-12:30

Genealogy Help at the Jane C. Sween Library
1st Friday help sessions are open to anyone needing help. Some month’s have a specific topic or theme and others are more nuts and bolts. MCHS’s Librarian Patricia Andersen and trained volunteers will help answer your genealogical questions. Included with admission (members free). 301-340-2974/ pandersen@montgomeryhistory.org. It is recommended you call first to determine the month’s topic.

Genealogy Club: Getting from Research to Publication and Beyond; Wednesday, March 25 at 7:30
Allen Beatty will discuss how to publish the results of your research including data entry considerations, copyright issues, what software to use, decisions when publishing via a book, marketing and distribution. Rockville Senior Center, 1150 Carnation Drive, Rockville. Free.

From Spring to Snow: A 19th Century Heirloom Garden at the Beall-Dawson House
; First workday is Sunday, March 29 from 1-4:00
The outdoor exhibit will feature vegetables and herbs that typically were grown in kitchen gardens in 19th century Montgomery County. We need volunteers who are willing to work once a month preparing, planting, maintaining and harvesting the garden through the year. We also need donations or loans of gardening tools for the project. Regular programs will be held in the garden the first Sunday of every month while maintenance of the garden will be continual throughout the project. Beall-Dawson House is located at 103 W. Montgomery Avenue, Rockville. Free.

Genealogy Club: Introduction to Genealogical Resources in the Maryland Department, Enoch Pratt Free Library, State Library Resources Center; Wednesday, April 22 at 7:30

Learn about the book and microform resources for Maryland genealogical research at the Enoch Pratt Free Library from Department Head Jeff Korman. The talk will include information about the variety of online information and value-added material that has been created by Maryland Department staff, and discussion of the Library's vast collection of historic newspapers. Rockville Senior Center, 1150 Carnation Drive, Rockville. Free.

Genealogy Club: WWII Records at the National Archives in College Park; Wednesday, May 27 at 7:30

John Bowen is a volunteer at the National Archives in College Park. He will give a general overview of WWII records at College Park with an emphasis on those series of records that relate to people and have genealogical value. He will also lead a tour of Archives II on June 4th. Rockville Senior Center, 1150 Carnation Drive, Rockville. Free.

Annual Meeting

Tony Pitch will be talking about Lincoln’s assasination, from his new book They Shot Papa Dead. Talk will be followed by a reception and local history book fair. Garret Park Town Hall, 10814 Kenilworth Avenue.

Genealogy Club 30th Anniversary Meeting and Dinner

Heritage Days
: June 27-June 28 from 12-4:00
Saturday the Beall-Dawson House and Waters House will be open with special activities at the Waters House including a Show of Fine Arts and Crafts by members of the Art League of Germantown. Sunday only the Beall-Dawson House will be open with special activities related to the pet exhibit including a Pet Expo and pet photography with Tom Meeks - Dogs, Cats & Kids Photography. This event is free. We are asking for a donation if you wish to have your pet photographed by Tom Meeks.
